Super Bowl Recap
Well, Tom Petty played the Super Bowl, and while he didn't rock as hard as Prince did (not even as hard as Prince's press conference), there were a few things that impressed me. First, the flying-V guitar laser show at the beginning. Pretty good. Second, he played mostly songs from his "solo" album, yet this was considered a Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers show. A bit of Advancement. Third, did Mike Campbell, one of the all-time great guitarists, have his hair in dreadlocks? If so, that is one of the boldest statements of Advancement I've seen in a while.

Mike Campbell is such a great guitarist he can take a petty song and make it sound great. The game itself, being a Patriot fan, was the real heartbreaker.
Campbell's been doing the dreads for awhile. it is painful but advanced or painfully advanced, either way.
yes, we noticed the dreads. it takes a pretty high level of advancement for a late-50's southern rocker to pull them off.
also, how happy were you when Petty actually - and rather easily - hit the high notes on Free Fallin' after basically wheezing through American Girl.
