Raised in Albarn or Watch It, Fela

According to billboard.com, Damon Albarn is working with Fela Kuti. He describes it as "the most exciting thing I've ever been involved in." Embracing World Music is a sign of advancement. I'll keep my eye on Mr. Albarn.

What of Britpop's role in advancement? Couldn't Oasis, with their "rock and roll" sound and lifestyle, as well as their claims to genius (and song titles like Champagne Supernova), be seen as the advanced offspring of the Beatles?

Oasis, while pretty good, does not rise to "genius" level. It's more likely that Terrence Trent D'Arby is advanced. He said he was better than the Beatles, wore black leather, sunglasses, had long hair, plus he has changed his name to Sananda Maitreya and releases his music only on the Internet, as I remember. I'm very interested in Albarn, but I don't know a whole lot about him. In fact, I don't know much about any Britpop, so I can't pretend to be an authority on this one. Oasis just doesn't cut it, in my opinion.
