All the videos today come from the legendary Beat Club. Let's start with "Atlantis," which is one of the absolute great tributes to lost civilizations of all time. After you've recovered, enjoy the following:
- "Walk Away" James Gang (with a great introduction)
- "Ace of Spades" Motorhead (what else?)
- "Highway Star" Deep Purple (one of my favorite solos)
- "New York Mining Disaster 1941" Bee Gees (change of pace)
- "This Town Ain't Big Enough for the Both of Us" Sparks (just slightly Overt!)
- "Everybody's Talkin'" Harry Nilsson (poor Ratso)
- "Muswell Hillbillies" the Kinks (you might want to skip the intros, but you might not)

Brilliant. The lightbulb has gone off. I love an idea that by definition throws out even the possiblilty of it being ironic. I was working with a socio-linguist at USC and she let me in on her big hush-hush project. --why do linguists where labcoats? I have always thought it was so other scientists would invite them to their bowling nights. If you know, tell me-- Her social navigation ideas have forever changed the way I listen to conversation, work memos..any communication. Another light bulb.
Hope you are well. Best to your family.
I formed most of these opinions playing little league baseball, as you probably could have guessed. There's something about Ashleigh Brown that makes a guy think...
The sublimity of the perfectly turned double play can do wonders for even the most average 8 year old.
Or it could have been the brown shirts with matching mesh backed hats. Would Mussolini have had such an end if his hats were mesh-backed? We'll never know...
I think Muriel Spark might have something to say about that...
Funny. Would you have made that comment 2 weeks ago when she was still alive? Believe it or not, I raised a glass of whisky to Sparks last night, and the people I was with looked at me like I had 3 heads, so I changed my toast to Jean Brodie, and they looked at me, again, as if I had 3 heads. Flabbergasted, I said "fuck it, here's to Johnny Cash," and everyone raised their glass. I was thinking about Muriel, though.
last comment was mine and not from that great poet, Anonymouos.
Strangely enough, I just watched the movie version the day before Spark died. So I've been feeling fascistic ever since.
